Baldwin County Commission Chair, Billie Jo Underwood said two of the five board members resigned since last August saying they were having significant differences with some of the BCLC staff.
) - FOX10 News has learned more about the sudden firing of six Baldwin County Library Cooperative employees. Those firings came as a surprise to the Baldwin County Commission which oversees the Board of Trustees which took the action.
According to Baldwin County Commission officials, its six employees were fired after the three remaining members of their Board of Trustees took action during an emergency meeting. According to Underwood, she and her fellow commissioners were taken by complete surprise by the firings and are still trying to find out what led to the sudden action. The county administrator will be meeting with the three board members responsible over the next few days to find out. This came to fruition while administrative staff had been working with BCLC and its fired director to clear up some newly discovered, but long-term organizational issues.
That organizational concern has to do with the BCLC’s 501-C3 status which has been in place for more than 20 years. County officials said some of the Cooperative’s practices and procedures aren’t allowed under that statute. It’s something county leaders discovered last year and were addressing.
