'This building will make it possible for Marion County to end the HIV pandemic,' center president and CEO Alan Witchey said.

"The new building really allows us to significantly expand our service footprint in addition to serving more people," Witchey said."It provides a more robust service-delivery system."Many of the clients Damien Center serves prefer to have their needs addressed in a one-stop shop, where they feel comfortable, Witchey said, rather than heading to multiple locations or a large hospital.
As more people have turned to the center for help, the staff has also grown. Forty people worked for the nonprofit in 2018. Today, that number has swelled to more than 150. In the first year after the expansion, Witchey estimates that the center will be able to engage 2,000 new clients and serve an additional 300 families each month through its food and nutrition program. Within three years, Damien Center officials hope to provide care to 1,000 people with HIV who currently lack medical access and provide medication to 1,200 people who currently have HIV that will suppress their viral load.
