The autumn and winter months are just around the corner with this year's Covid booster roll out beginning shortly. But who is eligible?
It is thanks to new variants spreading globally, including the highly mutated strain nicknamed Pirola and Omicron subvariant Eris. The latest data from the UK Health Security Agency reveal numbers have increased from the end of July. It comes as the colder months are just around the corner, with the spread of illnesses like the flu increasing as we reach winter, putting extra strain on the NHS.
The minimum booster age increase from 50 to 65 means that around 12 million less people across the UK will be given the jab this autumn/winter. People under the minimum age of 65 who have certain health conditions will also be offered a Covid booster as well as those who live with a person who has a weakened immune system. You can check your eligibility using the NHS inform vaccine calculator here.
