The forecasters have issued a verdict on talks of an 'Indian Summer' across the UK, with hopes of sunny weather to emerge this autumn.
After a wet and mild summer, claims that Scotland and the rest of the UK may be in for an Indian Summer have been circulating.
The term is often used to describe warm, calm weather in the autumn. The phrase has been used since the 18th century, with the first description reading: "Sometimes the rain is followed by an interval of calm and warm which is called the Indian summer", according to the Met Office. Looking ahead to September 4 to September 18, the Met Office said: "There are currently few strong signals for the first half of September, meaning that typical early-Autumnal conditions are the most likely scenario across the UK. Northern and western areas are likely to see more unsettled weather, with the greatest likelihood of drier weather being in the south and east."
