Fri, April 19th 2024 at 6:30 PMWEST VALLEY CITY, Utah —The team released a statement on their social media pages Thursday, hours after the National Hockey League announced the Utah Jazz ownership has been awarded a new franchise.The Grizzlies relocated to the Beehive State in 2005 after a 24-year history that included stops in Virginia, Huntsville, Tallahassee, Georgia and Lexington.
As excitement grew about the prospect of the NHL in Salt Lake, several people asked what the Grizzlies would do and how they would react. The Utah Grizzlies first came to the state as a member of the International Hockey League and American Hockey League . The club won two Turner Cups in 1995 and 1996. The original team was suspended in 2004 at the request of owner David Elmore. It was later sold and moved to Cleveland as the Lake Erie Monsters.
