🔴 UK officers rescued 50 more asylum seekers from another capsized Channel small boat on the same night four people died this week, it is understood
In a similar incident to the collapse of a small boat that left four people dead and from which a further 39 were rescued, Border Force officers were called out to another vessel which had capsized, leaving five of the 50 passengers in the icy waters.
The incidents came after Rishi Sunak’s announcement on Tuesday for a wide-ranging plan to curb Channel crossings, including the establishment of a new operational command for small boats. The new set-up will also see the recruitment of another 100 staff to work in a new small boats headquarters. Clandestine Channel Threat Commander Dan O’Mahoney will step down after two-and-a-half years and the new command will be led by soon-to-be former Army officer Major-General Duncan Capps.
