13News reporter John Doran reports from near 42nd and Post road where IMPD and the city are hoping to make the area safer after a broad daylight shooting on Tuesday.
"It's a big effort that we're putting in over there as well as some other places around the east side and around the city," said IMPD Capt. Joe Finch.Hopefully it tells the community that we're here," said Finch."We're trying to make your community as safe as any other community in the city and we need your help. We're putting a big effort in to connect with you to make sure that the crime stays out of your neighborhood.
"The city's gone through a whole effort to upgrade street lighting throughout the whole city and there's always been the conversation of 'how do we get the biggest bang for our buck? Where do we put street lights?' Well, if we have a high crime area that doesn't have working or no lights that's a great place to start," said Finch."Town and Terrace is one of those that's gone through an upgrade.
"The old adage of the dark elements hate the light, there's some truth to that," said Finch."Obviously when we have things happen in the middle of the day, that doesn't really bear its way out, but it's always better to have lights on."WTHR would like to send you push notifications about the latest news and weather.
