We chat with Slayers star thomasjane about his role as vampire slayer Elliot Jones, the film's blend of horror and comedy, and its subversive commentary on online culture:
Battling vampires is always a profession fraught with an abnormal number of occupational hazards. However, that memo was never passed on to Elliot Jones , the vampire hunter protagonist of the new horror-comedy Slayers. With a mix of satirical humor of modern online and social media life with vampire slaying a-plenty, audiences in the mood for both can see each just in time for Halloween with Slayers now in theaters and on digital platforms.
Was Slayers filmed during the early days of the pandemic? Did that impact the making of the film significantly? Slayers also has a theme of social media and online influencers as a parallel to vampirism. Is that something that really drew you to the film? Thomas Jane: Well, making movies during COVID, it's a pain in the a--! Everybody's got a little zone that you've got to hang out in, you've got masks on, gloves and face-shields, so it's little bit like trying to make a movie on the moon. That brings its own challenges, it can slow things down a little bit, but we didn't let it stop us. Like I said, we're just happy to be out of the darn house.
