This particular challenge had extra special meaning as former fitness instructor Elsbeth Thomas was honouring her best friend Helen Harrison who died of cancer last year
A superfit intensive care nurse who trains for ultramarathons in between nightshifts at Hairmyres Hospital has smashed her latest challenge for a cause close to her heart.
Helen lost her battle with oesophageal cancer in November last year and was cared for in her final days at Glasgow’s Prince and Princes of Wales Hospice. “I will be forever be grateful that this is where Helen spent her final days. I see many palliative patients who are not fortunate enough to receive hospice care, as there are too few beds, so I would like to do what I can to help someone like Helen.”
Instead, Elsbeth’s two daughters Holly, 22, and Lizzy, 21, provided love and support through daily emails as they patiently waited to hear back from their ‘supermum’.
