Adam Fantilli went to an eye doctor to work on his peripheral vision. He chose the college route, unheard of for Canadian prospects. And he’s not afraid to drop the gloves. scottcwheeler details the atypical ascension of Fantilli to star prospect.

When Dave D’Ammizio is asked to put a name on his role with the Fantillis, he chuckles.

D’Ammizio knew Fantilli was different from the day he met him. He was fearless, “always doing these crazy things” and always the first to jump at a dare. He knew that Adam was going to be a hockey player by minor bantam not because of his talent — “he’s never been naturally gifted with a natural skill set, it is something that he has worked at,” he’ll say — but because whenever he was challenged with something negative, he’d do everything within his power to turn it into a positive.

Before Angelo Catenaro began coaching Fantilli, he knew only of this 14-year-old one-man show who was capable of making the jump up a year to play U16 AAA. “I’d describe him as like an Eric Lindros but maybe even better skilled, and that’s no knock on Eric Lindros, but his skill level is off the charts and he does it at high speed,he battles. I know the game has changed today and us coaches are getting a little older but we all still really admire a guy that has the ability to score three goals but also does so much more,” he said.
