Only the tank years, 1982-83 and ’83-84, that brought Ralph Sampson and Hakeem Olajuwon to town were worse .
The turnaround from tanking in the mid-80s was swift. The Rockets won 48 games with the third-best record in the Western Conference and made the playoffs in Olajuwon’s rookie year.
