An unknown number successfully made it into the U.S. with the help of smugglers, and many were hidden inside commercial tractor-trailers,On Thursday, Esmeralda Castillo-Sanchez, 22, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to transport undocumented immigrants for a case that many in San Antonio saw unfold on television news. She is the latest of five people arrested in the case. She admitted taking money to pick up migrants once a tractor-trailer stopped in San Antonio.
Federal agents charged Christopher Cavazos, 22, Fernando Castañon, 20, and Castillo-Sanchez with conspiracy to transport undocumented immigrants and transporting undocumented immigrants. Two 17-year-olds, Angel Gerardo Villafranca and Juan Garcia Jr., were charged with smuggling persons, a state felony.
