The crowd for the 2023 Mercury Prize-shortlisted artist was a bouncing throng of pure joy
A notably larger crowd than last year's inaugural fest descended on the Royal Highland Centre Showgrounds to soak up an eclectic mix of homegrown and national talent from the likes of Primal Scream, Young Fathers, Boy Genius, Arab Strap and Fred Again - and even the sun decided to show up.
As well as iconic headliners Optimo who tore the proverbial roof off Unknown Pleasures, the stage also played host to two emerging female Scots DJ's Sofay and Eclair Fifi who gave the festival's clubbing contingent a delectable slice of hypnotic beats and wonky electronica affirming their reputations as exceptional selectors of underground house and techno.
The party atmosphere at Unknown Pleasures was the perfect precursor to Saturday's main stage headliner and man of the moment Fred Again. Opening with Kyle , the Brian Eno prodigy had festival-goers eating out the palm of his hand from the off. Euphoric tracks Delilah and Angie connected the whole crowd and Marea , sampling The Blessed Madonna, served as the perfect unifier for revellers who mourned the loss of music and dancing during the COVID pandemic.
