The Saskatchewan Rattlers resume their eastern road trip Wednesday in Ottawa.
The Rattlers — who had won four straight games — were clobbered 83-60 by the expansion Newfoundland Growlers on Sunday, setting the stage for a road trip that continues into Ottawa Wednesday, and Newfoundland again on Saturday.Sunday’s Canadian Elite Basketball League win was the first for the Growlers, a new franchise who entered the game with an 0-10 record. A few days earlier, the Rattlers had thumped the Growlers 90-71 in Saskatoon.
The teams played once last year, with Ottawa winning 82-69. Their only other head-to-head contest was Aug. 5, 2020, an 87-68 BlackJacks win.Saskatchewan’s Tony Carr, who played collegiately at Penn State, leads the CEBL with 5.8 assists per game. Scotty Lindsey, from Northwestern University, tops the league with 41 three-pointers — two ahead of teammate Devonte Bandoo — and he’s fifth in league scoring with an even 20.0 points per game.
At the end of the regular season, the No. 5 through 8 teams will take part in play-in games, with the winners advancing to the CEBL quarterfinals.Saskatchewan follows its Wednesday game in Ottawa with a contest Saturday in Newfoundland. They will then return home for a July 12 date with the league-leading Hamilton Honey Badgers, followed by the aforementioned July 14 contest against Ottawa.
