The City of Huntsville and the Housing Authority were awarded $1.3 million in 2018 to come up with a plan to transform Mill Creek housing and the area around it.
The City of Huntsville has been in contact with private developers interested in partnering with the Mill Creek transformation project.
Finding the right private developer is perhaps the most important step in the transformation of the 28-acre distressed neighborhood not far from downtown that includes Butler Terrace, Butler Terrace Addition and Johnson Towers. The project is named for the creek that runs through the site. Community Development Manager Scott Erwin said the City plans to apply for an additional $20-$40 million in HUD funding through its Choice Neighborhood Initiative program by the end of next year.
