A woman was fatally hit by a car in San Jose while walking outside of a crosswalk early Monday morning, San Jose police said.
Officers responded just after 4:30 a.m. at Tully Road and Lanai Avenue where a man driving a blue Honda coupe struck a pedestrian walking north on Lanai Avenue, the department said.
After the collision, the driver stayed in the area and complied with law enforcement, police said. The woman sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital, SJPD said.SJPD said this is the 10th pedestrian death this year, the 12th fatal collision and the 13th traffic death. The department told SFGATE that 32 pedestrians died last year in San Jose.
The number of pedestrian deaths in San Jose is down compared to this time last year, according to data from the city’s Department of Transportation. There were 17 reported pedestrian deaths as of May 1, 2022, Nicole Ortega, a spokesperson for the department told SFGATE.
