At a time when inflation is killing many people's pocketbooks, it looks like residents of the capital city and the county that hosts it may be spared having to pay higher property taxes in 2023. The city's proposed budget includes funding for 16 new officers for its police department.
Dauphin County commissioners on Wednesday put forth a 2023 budget that freezes property tax rates at the same level they have been for the past 17 years.for the next 20 days, would maintain the property tax rate at 6.88 mills.
“This proposal includes investment in our workforce,” Commissioner Chad Saylor said. “We have spent the past couple weeks in budget hearings making significant cuts that will save the county money.” Meanwhile, Harrisburg city residents also may be spared a tax increase in the new year under Mayor Wanda Williams’ proposed $110.6 million budget presented to council this week. The proposed budget includes funding for 16 new positions to the Harrisburg Bureau of Police which would bring the total number of uniformed police to 152 officers.

The mayor’s budget proposes to spend an estimated $360,000 toward updating street lights and traffic signals and about $1.45 million for modernizing handicapped ramps along State Street.
