The annual 28th Black Harvest Film Festival kicks off celebrating Black filmmaking on Nov. 4, with a schedule packed with screenings of independent feature films, screenings of anniversary and restored films, and special events. BlackVoicesWTTW

Troy Pryor, one of the festival organizers, highlighted one of the feature films as especially exciting.

“‘The Inspection’ by Elegance Bratton – that project has done very well at multiple festivals,” said Pryor. “The story of a Black gay man in the military and his journey, his experience. [Bratton] will actually be with us at the festival, showcasing not only his project but telling his story.” The festival ends with an anniversary screening of the 1992 comedy “Boomerang,” directed by Illinois native Reginald Hudlin.

The organizers have dedicated this year’s event to the memory of the festival’s co-founder, Sergio Mims, who died earlier this month. “As the co-founder, especially as a Black man in this industry, he’s created a legacy and built a platform that we feel honored to continue to build on,” said Pryor.
