'It’s ground-breaking not only for a UK pride but also on a global level too'
As cliché as it may be, Mark Fletcher says he has a huge sense of pride as he walks through the city centre every year just as the city's annual LGBTQ+ celebration gets underway.
Mark says he and his team have been carefully planning this year’s event and annual parade since May 2022 - some three months before last year’s Pride even took place. “It just shows the level of which we’ve been able to create space for all members of our community. To be able to talk about this just solidifies the message that there truly is a place for everybody when celebrating their identity at Manchester Pride.”
“We’re there to give support but we empower them so they can create themselves something that they want. It’s ground-breaking not only for a UK pride but also on a global level too. “I’m a secret Bollywood fan and to be able to learn some moves that help me live my dream out a little bit more is really exciting. It’s going to be very busy but that’s going to be one thing that you don’t want to miss. It’s so important."
“Not only are hate crime figures on the increase, but you don’t have to look too far away to see the levels of discrimination and lack of freedoms of queer people throughout the world.
