Man dead after apparently falling into fire pit in southeast Houston
A man was killed early Friday after police suspect he fell into a fire and burned alive near Greater Third Ward, officials said.
Officers around 2:45 a.m. responded to a report of a dead man in the 2700 block of Scott Street, Lt. Ronnie Willkens, of the Houston Police Department, told On Scene reporters.Investigators believe a man was living in a vacant lot in the area and walked over to another area with a friend. He sat down on a wheelchair, and the friend then left for a nearby store.
The first man then might have slipped into the fire, which began as coals but grew larger in intensity, authorities said.
