ICYMI: Maier, Rhinehart and Robins: Graduating Saskatoon Blades 'grateful' to end career with full season
“It’s kind of come full circle,” said Maier, who became the Blades’ No. 1 goalie as a 16-year-old rookie. “You come in not knowing what to expect. You’re not knowing the friendships and the family that you’ve created in the past five years so it’s been quite a couple of days of thinking and processing that.
“I think the friendships and the family is what I’m most grateful to achieve,” said Maier, a Yorkton native. “I think that’s something I’ll never forget. The record obviously means a lot to me and close to my heart, but it’s just the people and everyone I’ve known and loved for the past five years will be forever.”
“It’s by far the best organization I’ve been a part of in the Western Hockey League,” said Rhinehart, a Lloydminster product. “I was playing on a couple of teams where I didn’t get a whole lot of opportunity. Then coming to a team here when I was 18 and getting a big role as soon as I got here, I was in the playoff running every year, despite COVID kind of ruining our seasons. I mean, I enjoyed every second here in Saskatoon. It was truly awesome.
“It’s such an honour to wear that captain and have my name on the wall , along with those leaders they’ve had in the past,” said Robins, who finished with 200 WHL regular-season career points. “It’s something that I’ll be forever appreciative for and I’m going to treasure forever.”“I had a good year with the Blades but unfortunately we didn’t go as deep as we wanted in the playoffs,” said Robins, a native of Clear Lake, Man.. “But, looking back on everything, it was amazing.
