🏉 Rising from local fields to the grand stage, Lincolnshire's very own Ollie Chessum joins the England Rugby World Cup squad! Will you be watching? 🌍🏆
Lincolnshire’s Ollie Chessum has been named in England’s squad for the Rugby World Cup in France — and his parents and local clubs are bursting with pride.
Ollie played for Kesteven’s Under-16s and Colts before being selected for England Counties Under-18s. After a spell at Nottingham, he secured a dream move in 2020 to the team he supported growing up - Leicester Tigers. Ollie scored his first England try in the Six Nations against Italy, but was later ruled out of the match against Ireland after sustaining a serious injury in training.
“It is the stuff of dreams to see that your son is playing in a World Cup, and to see Lewis lead his country with the Under-20s too, will be amazing.”Ollie’s mum Michelle added: “Our family are unbelievably proud and excited that Oliver was selected as one of the final squad members for the World Cup.“He has worked incredibly hard through his rehabilitation and whilst we were concerned that time was against him, with the World Cup as his goal, we are overjoyed that he made it.
“Seeing him reach the pinnacle of the game, being selected for the World Cup, shows how thriving our mini and junior sections are at the club. Meanwhile, two Kesteven RFC Under-18s players Josh Brahoua and Ben Beere featured for Leicester Tigers Academy against Leinster and put in strong performances.Andy Crawford, Club President, at Sleaford RFC, said: “Here at Sleaford Rugby Club we are immensely proud to be associated with the Chessum brothers.
