The president and CEO of the Association for the Advancement for Mexican Americans in Houston has offered his resignation for personal reasons.

Jimenez joined AAMA in 2016 with a five-year commitment. He said the last couple of years have been difficult for him. He is grieving the recent loss of his wife to cancer. He said he is following through on his goal to retire this year and “felt it was necessary to work on transitioning out of AAMA and allow plenty of time for new leadership and energy to take over.”

The organization grew to have many programs, including the George I. Sanchez Charter High School, which has two campuses in Houston that have been expanded during Jimenez’s leadership. The charter school is primarily financed with funds from the Texas Education Agency. The other services depend on grants and donations from corporations and individuals.
