Ryder, a 9-year-old Chihuahua-terrier mix, was found at an El Cajon shopping center two weeks after the dog had been reported missing out of Las Vegas, according to the San Diego Humane Society
The 9-year-old dog — a male Chihuahua-terrier mix whose home was with a family in Las Vegas — was found this week in a shopping center in El Cajon, more than 300 miles from home.The dog had been missing since July 3, after he escaped from his Nevada home, the Humane Society said in a news release. Two weeks later, someone spotted Ryder outside a Ross store in El Cajon, and brought him to the San Diego Humane Society’s East County campus.
Debbie Ferris traveled from Nevada to El Cajon and was reunited with Ryder on Thursday. In a video posted online by the Humane Society, Ferris said she was both happy and surprised that Ryder had shown up hundreds of miles west of home.She said her family had put up flyers and posted signs about Ryder, joined missing-dog Facebook groups and followed NextDoor posts in attempts to find him.
Ferris’ family friend, Darlene Hardee, said in the video that Ryder likes to ride in cars and probably hopped into one with a stranger.
