One of the items had risen by 245%
Unless you've been hiding in a cave for the last few years, then you'll be all too aware that supermarket prices have risen.
Out of 74 items I bought, 62 had gone up, 22 of them by 50% or more. Five of the items had actually risen by more than 100%. One of them, Sharwood's Tikka Masala Mild Medium Sauce, by a staggering 245%, Mr Kipling Cherry Bakewells by 187% and Thorntons Mini Caramel Shortcakes by 157%. The fact my daughter asked 'why have you bought all the things we used to have?' says it all. I've stopped buying so many purely because of the cost.
Likewise with crisps. A 12-pack of Walkers Wotsits was £2 in 2018. This week it was £3.25 - a hike of 63%. And we're all too aware of increases with Heinz. In my previous shop a four pack of beans was £2. This week it was £3.75, up 87.5%.
