The death is currently being treated as unexplained as police probe the circumstances.
The bones were discovered at the coast at Seaburn, Sunderland, on Good Friday afternoon, with police swooping on the site. Northumbria Police has now said that the grim discovery has been confirmed to be human.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We have received reports of bones or suspected body parts being found at Seaburn and Roker beaches in Sunderland over recent weeks. The grim find follows the discovery earlier this year of remains which were also found to be human at nearby Roker Beach. Detectives are still investigating the remains discovered on February 13.
