Football: DeCristofaro's late touchdown pushes Mount Olive past Wayne Valley in North 2, Group 4 quarterfinals
Adam DiCristofaro scored a go-ahead touchdown with just over a minute remaining in the game to push second-seeded and No. 20 in thetop 20 Mount Olive to a 27-21 win over seventh-seeded Wayne Valley in the quarterfinals of the North 2, Group 4 playoffs in Flanders.
After conceding a game-tying touchdown by Wayne Valley with about five minutes remaining, Mount Olive marched down the field and ended its drive with a short-yardage touchdown rush by DeCristofaro.Wayne Valley started its final drive from its 20-yard line, but big plays from quarterback Matt Chetirkin put the ball on Mount Olive’s 33-yard line with 13 seconds left in the game. An open-field tackle on the Wayne Valley quarterback brought the lock to 0:00.
DiCristofaro also punched in a 31-yard touchdown in the opening half, and Jake Asbury ran in a short-yardage touchdown in the third quarter. Wayne Valley rallied back from a 21-6 third-quarter deficit thanks to a trick play touchdown pass from Brian Blake to Rian Zuta, and a game-tying touchdown rush from Chetirkin.
