Electric Moke Californian Goes Up For Order, Starts At $41,900 | Carscoops carscoops
The Moke Californian is currently available to order and customers can secure a build slot with a refundable deposit of $990. However, the company has “already received strong interest,” so they’re advising fans to act fast as only 325 units will be offered in the United States annually.
Billed as a faster, more powerful, and emissions-free “reinvigoration” of the original car that was sold in the United States between 1977 and 1982, thehas a lithium-ion battery that powers a rear-mounted electric motor developing 44 hp . This enables the model to accelerate from 0-34 mph in 4.3 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 50 mph .While that’s not fast, the Californian can be legally driven on the highway and should feel right at home in beach towns.
Moke didn’t release equipment details, but noted production will be limited to 325 units annually in order to comply with the Low Volume Motor Vehicles Manufacturers Act of 2015. This allows “heritage brands to produce derivatives of any of their models that are over 25 years old, but comply with current Federal safety standards for motor vehicle equipment.”
