Emergency services were called to the Hotel Victoria in Newquay just before 11am on Saturday over concern for the welfare of a baby. The infant was pronounced dead ‘a short time later’, Devon and Cornwall Police said, adding that next of kin have been informed. Police are treating the death as ‘unexplained’ with enquiries ongoing.
‘A 27-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child. ‘They have been released on police bail whilst enquiries continue.’ The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust confirmed it was called at 10.43am. Two double-crewed land ambulances, a critical care car and an operations officer were deployed to the scene.
