A coalition of business and government officials have started an online petition for people to raise their objection to the Pa. Department of Transportation's bridge tolling plan.

The lawmakers and local officials spoke of the negative impacts diversionary traffic would have on communities; the added cost tolls would impose on motorists, businesses and the trucking industry;, and complained about the way PennDOT went about pursuing this tolling idea.

“I don’t think anybody here would disagree that these bridges do need fixed,” Langerholc said. “But let’s keep pushing. Let’s work together for a compromise that makes sense for Pennsylvania.” Cumberland County, along with seven municipalities, filed a lawsuit in Commonwealth Court to stop the South Bridge project estimated to cost as much as $1 billion from going forward. The court subsequently issued a preliminary injunction ordering a halt to work on all nine bridge candidates for tolling until the full court rendered a decision. That order is now is on appeal to the Supreme Court.

“We knew tolling of the South Bridge would have a devastating, far-reaching effects on our communities,” Foschi said. “We need a viable solution to tolling and are hopeful for a productive dialogue and a positive solution.”
