'For over five years we have highlighted our concerns for the safety of local residents, users of our services and motorists'
Michael Doherty, centre manager at Glen Community Parent Youth Group on the Suffolk Road, said the road is becoming "increasingly dangerous" and has been the site of several accidents and near-misses over the past six months.
"We've given them [DFI] a number of scenarios which would ease the pressure and improve safety such as installing barriers outside the shops to prevent cars from parking there. "We're now seeking political pressure to be put on the Department so we can get this sorted out. Every day we walk out here and we see the cars trying to pull out of Derryveagh Mews and the cars and vans parked in front of the shops blocking the entire view of traffic coming down Suffolk Road. Cars then try to nudge out and nudge out and then there's an accident.
A Department for Infrastructure spokesperson told Belfast Live: "Normally, Traffic attendants are deployed to roads on scheduled beats or, as resources permit, to other roads where parking issues have been drawn to our attention.
