The Government's plan to pay for vaping starter kits for smokers, in a bid to help them quit, has been hit with controversy as people question the move.
Health minister Neil O’Brien set out a package of measures aimed at driving smoking rates below 5% by 2030. The plan includes encouraging people to swap tobacco products for vapes. But LancsLive readers have hit out at the measures and questioned their effectiveness. One reader said: "I wonder if they'll get me a couple of pints a night to encourage me to stop drinking. Just asking."Another reader raised concerns about vaping addiction. They commented: "Yeah and then they will be addicted to vaping, when it’s just as bad."

One person said: "I know a close family member that smoked 40 a day for 40 years, decided to quit using a vape, used it about 6 months, gave up the cigarettes and vape altogether so it did help.
