Christopher Johnson, 30, of Akron, died of a gunshot wound to the torso, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.
During the vigil, an unknown suspect or suspects approached the group at about 6 p.m. and opened fire before fleeing the scene, police say. Investigators believe someone in the crowd might have returned fire.
Johnson was driven from the scene on the 800 block of Wall Street by a private vehicle to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, but he died of his wounds. Another 30-year-old man and a 19-year-old man were taken to Summa Health Akron City Hospital. Police say their wounds were not life-threatening.
