Finally, the NASCAR Truck Series has come to Monaco's most famous rally stage.
AS Monaco, a Monegasque soccer team in France's Ligue 1, announced on Wednesday that they have signed American striker Folarin Balogun. Normally, that would not be car news. The club, for some reason, decided to make it car news by announcing the signing with a NASCAR-style truck.
Specifically, the video shows a stock car-style truck driving up the legendary Col de Turini. The legendary mountain pass is most notable as arguably the most famous single stage in rallying, the heart of the annual Rallye Monte Carlo. The road has also appeared three times in the Tour de France and twice more in recent years in another major French cycling race.
Balogun, a 22-year-old striker, was born in New York before moving to England at two years old. He was a major coup for the U.S. national team when he picked his birth country over his adopted home country for international play, but he did not actually grow up in North America and is not known to have attended any NASCAR Truck Series races in the past.
