AC Schnitzer unveils 610hp BMW M4 - the latest series of upgrades for both coupe and convertible
currently parked outside, I find it hard to imagine anyone could think:"What this needs is more power." The G80 et al really is a return to form for M after the spikiness of the F80. And yet if you are on an unrelenting quest to improve on near perfection, you're in luck. AC Schnitzer has released a set of upgrades for the M4 coupé and convertible, covering the engine, suspension and aerodynamics, with a side helping of aesthetic add-ons as well.
The Step I performance upgrade raises the outputs from 510hp and 479lb ft to 590hp at 6,500rpm and 553 lb ft between 3,500 and 4,500rpm. There are no specified changes to the S58 twin-turbocharged straight-six's hardware, with the ramp up coming from ECU software changes and increased boost. However, the Step II upgrade includes a new silencer system, and pushes power up to 610hp at 6,250rpm, with torque unchanged from the Step I's peak.
Moving to the suspension, AC Schnitzer is offering a spring kit that lowers the M4 by 15 to 20 mm from standard. Or you can add AC Schnitzer RS coilovers with variable rebound and compression. These reduce the ride height by 30 to 40mm from standard. AC Schnitzer AC1 Light Alloy Wheels or AC3 Lightweight Forged Wheels are offered. Both variants are 10.0J x 20" at the front with 285/30 R 20 tyres and 10.0J x 20" at the rear shod with 295/30 R 20.
Aero and exterior design upgrades include an AC Schnitzer front splitter that is said to add 40kg at 124mph, plus side skirts, bonnet inserts and deflector vanes on the lower front corners and upper wings. You can equip the coupé with a carbon rear spoiler that claims to produce a further 20kg or a"Racing" rear wing and Gurney Flap that are said to develop up to 70kg more downforce . Convertible customers can choose a carbon rear diffuser.
