This dance by Astiyazh Haghighi and Amir Mohammad Ahmadi in Tehran's 'Freedom Square' is currently seen as a symbol of resistance against Iran's current regime. But now the pair have been sentenced to 10 years in prison for sharing the clip.

This romantic video – seen as a symbol of defiance against the regime in Iran – has led to the couple being sentences to more than 10 years in prison.

It is a historic epicentre of protests in the country, also used by those who support the current government to commemorate the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Though the couple, who are engaged, did not link their dance to the protests, Ms Haghighi was not wearing a headscarf in defiance of the Islamic republic’s rules for women.A court in Tehran sentenced them each to 10 years and six months in jail, as well as bans on using the Internet and crossing the border, the Human Rights Activists News Agency said.
