Glacier Point road, the route to one of Yosemite National Park's most amazing views, opened for the season today.
“Do not hike trails starting from the road unless you’re prepared for cross-country navigation and have winter hiking skills/gear,” rangers tweeted., 7,214 feet above sea level. The point is about 3,200 feet above the floor of Yosemite Valley. Though it feels as if it looks down up Half Dome, Half Dome is actually about 1,600 feet higher.
Glacier Point Road usually closes for the winter in October or November., the main artery connecting the park to the eastern Sierra and Owens Valley, remains closed. It typically opens in late May or June, and this was an unusually snowy winter.
