The New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays began a three-game series on Tuesday night at Rogers Centre.
pitcher Michael King’s short but amazing run as a starter. It’s only been five weeks, but that’s been enough time to show he’s definitely worthy of going to spring training with a rotation spot to lose.
Aside from some unusual control issues, King was masterful yet again Tuesday night pitching a one-hitter over six shutout innings in a 2-0 Yankees win. King struck out five and walked five in a 98-pitch outing that lowered eight-starts ERA to 1.49. Excluding a two-inning, two-run start as an opener in early August, he’s pitched to a 1.05 ERA, allowing four earned runs over 36.1 innings with 50 strikeouts and nine walks.
In his latest start, King more than held his own in a matchup against Blue Jays ace Kevin Gausman, who didn’t allow a hit until the sixth in working seven scoreless.
