Fans reportedly had an audible reaction, and social media took off when Cody Rhodes took off his robe Sunday night and revealed the gruesome injury that he was wrestling with.
“You guys paid your money to see me, I wasn’t missing my return to Chicago at the Allstate Arena,” he reportedly said after the match. “We will get through this, and I’ll update you all tomorrow.”
Rhodes, who is the son of wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes, made a splash earlier this year when he left All Elite Wrestling to return to the WWE after a seven-year hiatus from the company. He appeared in line to challenge Roman Reigns for the title, but it looks like those plans will be put on hold for a while.
