An extremely powerful piece from Kerigh_Palmer on WorldKidneyDay

The significance of the second Thursday in March will be overlooked by the majority, but for one global community it's a day that will be filled with many emotions; a time to reflect, look to the future, be grateful and have hope. There will be tears of joy and sadness as we mark World Kidney Day.I had been on dialysis for six years and seven months, not that I was counting.
Answering the call I tried to concentrate on the important information she was giving me, where I needed to go and when, what they were doing now as well as questions I had rattling around in my head. I knew I wasn't getting any more sleep, not now.I lay in bed thinking through all the things I still needed to do: what I needed to pack; best route to the hospital; when we needed to leave; who I needed to call; when would be the best time to call them; and...
The hours passed, and at 7pm I was told the kidney had arrived. I was taken to theatre where I met my surgeon. By this time I wasn't worried or nervous, I just felt calm, it was out of my hands now and I was comfortable and at ease with whatever lay ahead.
