The Diocese of Worcester said they wanted a consistent policy across all schools because some had policies while others did not. The diocese said the policy is adopted from Catholic teachings about"accepting one's own body as it was created." The policy does emphasize that bullying or harassing students based on their perceived sexual identity will not be tolerated.The new policy is already being challenged by LGBTQ+ advocates. Some said it will push out students who need love and acceptance.
"They don't understand that kids just want to be themselves and live with no fear," Finn told WBZ."It just made me feel like I'm not a human, like they don't care.""It's just humiliating, degrading and embarrassing," said Jai Santora, Finn's mom."And that type of behavior leads to bullying and segregation."
