'Wonderful' teen Macie Vella took her own life after years of mental health struggles
Tributes have been paid to a ‘wonderful’ teenager who was ‘full of life, fun loving and fantastic to be around’ after she tragically died.
The pair went to the house on Berry Street, and from outside the property saw Macie inside, which saw them try to gain entry to the family home. Lancashire Constabulary was were called, with officers kicking in the front door, and North West Ambulance Service workers arrived shortly after. Tragically Macie was declared dead just after a quarter to midnight.
The hearing also heard how Macie, a former pupil of Up Holland High School and Scarisbrick Hall School near Ormskirk, had tragically lost her biological mother, Sarah, to suicide at the age of six. Macie had suffered with mental health issues in recent years and had been referred to Children and Adult Mental Health Services around six years ago. She had been prescribed medication but took herself off it.
Yet the hearing also heard how police found three suicide notes at the scene of her death on the dining table and also looked at Macie’s phone and laptop, where they found messages of ‘an unpleasant nature,’ said Kate Bisset, Assistant Coroner for Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen. A police investigation into the messages had found no direct link between the messages and what had happened, she added.
Macie’s life was, as the assistant coroner put it, 'full of promise’ and she was close to her family who loved her. The youngster had booked her driving test, passed all her college exams, planned to go to the Creamfields Festival. She had also secured offers for places from five universities.
