The woman suspected of stealing a car with two 5-month-old brothers inside in Columbus last month, causing several days of national panic, is scheduled to make her first appearance in federal court in Columbus Friday afternoon., which each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years to life in federal prison if she is convicted.Jackson has been in jail in Indianapolis, where she was arrested Dec. 22 and where one of the missing children was found in the abandoned car.
Her return to Ohio was briefly delayed because she spat on a deputy while being booked into jail in Marion County, according to the Marion County Prosecutor's office. Jackson entered a guilty plea last week in Indianapolis related to that issue and received a one-year jail sentence, with most of it suspended.Jackson is scheduled to appear in the federal courthouse in downtown Columbus at 1:30 p.m. on Friday for her initial hearing in front of U.S. District Magistrate Judge Kimberly A.
At this hearing, Jackson will hear more about her rights and the charges brought against her. Jolson will decide whether to hold further hearings in the matter, including a hearing on whether to grant Jackson bail or release her until the trial. That detention hearing, if necessary, would likely occur sometime next week.
