Theresa Kadish, a 31-year-old filmmaker, has been dumpster diving for a decade and finds one-third of her food needs for the week from grocery store trash.

‘I select food in the dumpster the same way humans have always selected food, with my senses,’ Kadish said.Kadish usually digs two times per week for meats, vegetables, fruits and eggs, among other perishable items. She has even cooked a filet mignon dinner using ingredients found solely through a dumpster dive.
Theresa Kadish, 31, has been dumpster diving for more than a decade and made a filet mignon dinner from items she found ‘Another third comes from our farm, all our vegetables, and a third is purchased, like gains, oils, and other bulk goods,’ she explained.Each of her dives, including driving to the dumpster and cleaning her findings, takes roughly three hours. Kadish claims no one has ever gotten food poisoning as a result.Kadish, who lives in the Catskill Mountains in New York, started dumpster diving when she was 19 years old and moved into a collective house.
