Jennifer Smyth fractured two vertebrae in 2013 but remains determined to walk again
A woman who became quadriplegic following a freak gymnastics injury 10 years ago will use robotic legs to enjoy a party celebrating her progress over the past decade.
Today, at a special party to mark her progress over the 10 years since her injury, Jennifer plans to walk for family and friends in her robotic legs. And just days ago, ahead of her big party, she posted a video showing her moving from a sitting position to standing upright while holding a bar unassisted - and without even the use of her robotic legs.
Speaking to Belfast Live, she explained: "It's an exo-skeleton. So basically, I got the legs in 2017 and it was because my Daddy passed away from a heart attack. His employer decided to do a fundraiser in 2017 for me and the money raised from that allowed me to get the robotic legs. He worked for a company called Landmarks, in estate management."You sort of like sit inside the machine. It's wrapped to your legs and it's controlled by a smartwatch.
