National Weather Service officials called a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from noon to 10 p.m. Friday for portions of central, east central and northeast Illinois.
Snow accumulations up to an inch was expected, with localized totals of 2 to 4 inches possible, officials said. Northeasterly winds were expected to gust 35 to 45 mph.Road conditions Friday afternoon and evening could be wet and slushy as temperatures are expected to be near or just above freezing.
Strong winds, heavy wet snow and possible thunder-snow, was expected Friday afternoon into the evening mainly east of I-57 due to a strong storm system moving into the region.Heavy rainfall was possible this weekend depending on the track of the system, officials said. Current conditions at O’Hare International Airport were 37 degrees with overcast. At Midway Airport conditions were the same.
