The thought of doing such things while hanging from a cliff seemed absurd.

Three days later, as we hiked through the goat farm’s tall grass wearing heavy harnesses and carrying several bags of gear, I was starting to get spooked. I usually deal with fear by not thinking about the thing that scares me until I absolutely have to. But now, minutes away from dangling off a ledge in a contraption I didn’t fully understand, I was forced to confront my decisions.
