London City Hall is falling in the footsteps of the UK Government by banning TikTok on official devices
, while the Scottish Government has also followed suit.
Like most social media platforms, TikTok, which is owned by a Chinese company named ByteDance, collects data about its users.Announcing the ban on UK government devices last week, Cabinet Office minister Oliver Dowden said it amounted to “good cyber hygiene” amid a risk to “sensitive Government data”.
“We have begun implementing a comprehensive plan to further protect our European user data, which includes storing UK user data in our European data centres and tightening data access controls, including third-party independent oversight of our approach.”
