Belichick's Patriots have been outscored 72-3 over last two games. Despite the coach's titles and legacy, his job should be in question.
FOXBORO, Mass. — There weren’t many fans left for the final few minutes of the ’ second-worst loss of the Bill Belichick era. But the few who remained at Gillette Stadium stuck around to boo as the final seconds ticked away. Belichick walked across the home turf, left with the frustrating task of shaking hands with coach Dennis Allen, who’d just beaten him and his team , the first time in the Belichick era that the Patriots were shut out at home with their starting quarterback .
Since he bought the franchise, it has never lost like this. Under Kraft, the Patriots had never suffered losses of 30-plus points in the same season — let alone in back-to-back games. Now, though, he’s watching a failing team at the hands of the man to whom he’s given football autonomy. And it’s not clear what the fix is. Belichick is 71 years old and hunting down Don Shula for the league’s all-time coaching wins record.
