Although Darkseid has a reputation as the ultimate DC Comics villain, he shouldn't be the big bad of the DC Universe reboot - or at least, not yet.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Darkseid may be the ultimate villain for DC’s heroes in the comic books, but that doesn’t mean he should be their main rival in the DC Universe – yet. Although Darkseid never did fight the Justice League directly in the DCEU, he was its big bad. Originally teased in Batman v. Dawn of Justice, Darkseid was the mastermind behind Steppenwolf’s pursuit of the Mother Boxes in Justice League.
James Gunn’s DC Universe Doesn’t Need Darkseid Quite Yet To use Darkseid correctly, certain characters and concepts need to that exist in the DCU first. Chief among these are New Genesis and the New Gods. In DC Comics, there are two planets – Apolokips and New Genesis – that serve as the foundation for Darkseid’s entire story. New Genesis functions as the “good” counterpart to Apolokips and the home of a group of super-powered beings known as the New Gods.
To do Darkseid justice, the DCEU needed to build its own version of Jack Kirby’s News Gods mythos, but the movies instead elected to bring in Darkseid, Steppenwolf, and the Mother Boxes without all of that.
